Bioleaching metal-bearing wastes and by-products for resource recovery: a review

چکیده

Abstract The global transition to a circular economy calls for research and development on technologies facilitating sustainable resource recovery from wastes by-products. Metal-bearing materials, including electronic wastes, tailings, metallurgical by-products, are increasingly viewed as valuable resources, with some possessing comparable or superior quality natural ores. Bioleaching, an eco-friendly cost-effective alternative conventional hydrometallurgical pyrometallurgical methods, uses microorganisms their metabolites extract metals unwanted metal-bearing materials. performance of bioleaching is influenced by pH, solid concentration, energy source, agitation rate, irrigation aeration inoculum concentration. Optimizing these parameters improves yields encourages the wider application bioleaching. Here, we review microbial diversity specific mechanisms metal recovery. We describe current operations approaches at various scales summarise influence broad range operational parameters. Finally, address primary challenges in scaling up applications propose optimisation strategy future research.

Conversion of Food Wastes and by-Products

Food and beverage production is an industry with the main raw materials generally obtained from plant and animal sources and the industry has always aimed to convert these raw materials to a value added products. During this conversion processes, voluminous and serious amounts of food wastes and by-products are generated. Unfortunately, one-third of the global food production is wasted worldwid...

Recovery of biomolecules from food wastes--a review.

Food wastes are produced by a variety of sources, ranging from agricultural operations to household consumption. About 38% occurs during food processing. At present, the European Union legislation encourages the exploitation of co-products. This valorisation can be achieved through the extraction of high-value components such as proteins, polysaccharides, fibres, flavour compounds, and phytoche...

Coagulation with Chitosan-An Aid to Recovery of By-products from Egg Breaking Wastes

Egg breaking wastes were treated with 1W200 mg./l. chitosan, a by-product /derived from shrimp and crab shells, and 2-20 mg./l. Betz 1130. Suspended solids in the .I wastewater were reduced by 70-90% and the COD by 55-75%. The yield of dry coagulated solids from wastes collected during cleanup was approximately 12 lb./IOKl gal., and from the concentrated wastes in the egg washers, the yield was...

Bioleaching of Heavy Metals by Sulfur Oxidizing Bacteria: A Review

Bioleaching, a novel biotechnological process, is used to eliminate heavy metals from contaminated sediments by acidification as well as solubilization of heavy metals. Metals from poor-quality ore and mineral compounds are removed by Bioleaching process, which is simple and low cost effective technology. Acidophilic sulfur oxidizing bacteria (Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, Acidithiobacillus t...
